529 PLANS

529 asset allocation study

Our asset-allocation study examines the variation in asset allocation -- i.e. the mix of stocks, bonds, and money-market (or similar) — among 529 plans offering "age-based" investment options. The study is limited to portfolios designed for beneficiaries age 17 and over, since this is the age group most affected by risk and short-term investment performance.

The results are presented in an easy-to-view graphical format, and are accompanied by recently-reported investment performance of the age-based portfolios. The study is updated periodically by Savingforcollege.com and is separated between direct-sold 529 plans and advisor-sold 529 plans.
